Secret Service agents stopped an armed gunman at a Washington hotel during an annual gathering, injuring the suspect and saving officials.
The incident unfolded approximately 20 minutes into the annual gathering at the Washington Hilton hotel. Law enforcement identified the suspect as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher and video game developer from Torrance, California.
Allen was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives when he rushed a security checkpoint in an attempt to reach the main ballroom. Secret Service agents intercepted him in the hotel lobby before he could access the crowded event space.
