Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett lashed out after the Supreme Court preserved a GOP redistricting map expected to expand Republican congressional power.
The Supreme Court issued a 6-3 order on December 4 that kept in place a previous stay blocking a lower court’s injunction against the redistricting map. Texas can now use the GOP-drawn boundaries while legal challenges continue through the courts.
The redistricting plan, passed by the Texas Legislature last year, could deliver up to five additional Republican House seats by consolidating Democratic-leaning urban centers and reconfiguring multiple swing districts. State Republican officials defended the map as reflecting population shifts and evolving voting patterns, while Democrats characterized it as racial gerrymandering intended to diminish minority voting power.
