NEW YORK — A federal judge in Manhattan has dismissed an aggressive declaratory-judgment lawsuit filed by biographer Michael Wolff against First Lady Melania Trump, ruling that the preemptive filing amounted to an improper litigation tactic designed to manufacture federal jurisdiction rather than resolve a legitimate legal controversy.
U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil, presiding in the Southern District of New York, declined to exercise discretionary federal jurisdiction over the case. In an unsparing memorandum opinion, the jurist criticized Wolff’s attempt to dictate the timeline and venue of a potential civil dispute, rebuking the author for using the bench as an instrument for strategic maneuvering.
